INSIDE OUT wind of dreams Essaouira 2018


On the occasion of this international conference for change-makers and leaders organized byThinkers and Doers agency (FR), I have been commissioned to taking portraits of all the citizens, travelers, students, workers, guests all around the city of Essaouira for 5 days.
All the photos have been printed out and installed by the artist JR (FR/USA) on the walls all around Essaouira (Marrocco)

Through this “surface/assembly” of posters
we wanted to establish and guide a general portrait
from/to the city and its inhabitants.
Essaouira is a port composed and inhabited by a multiplicity
influences, origins where languages, cultures and
religions since the 18th century.
On the occasion of this international conference for
change-makers and leaders,
we wanted to show who the locals are
revealing this unique local diversity
through differences in age, gender, and social categories
while incorporating the idea of the dream/wish/future.


The project was co-produced by The Cultural Foundation
Dar-Souiri / Essaouira Mogador chaired by Mr Azoulaiy,
and engages the city through the chosen places
and local artisans and businesses involved.

Dreams and ports are about distances in a physical, cultural, or even mystical way/approach.

Dreams and ports are about humans, shifting the concepts of different, new, other.

Dreams and port are about languages: faces, habits, or expressions are offered to be (re)discovered.

Dreams and ports are about uniqueness and universality at the same time.

Dreams and ports are exchanges challenging boundaries and possibilities.
